Baroncini Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2006, Tuscany, Italy

RRP £11.99
1x75cl £6.99 - Save £5
6x75cl £41.50
Vino Nobile is the least-known of the trio of Tuscan giants. While Brunello and Chianti get most of the attention, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano frequently offers the best of both. With the power of Brunello (which is pure Sangiovese), and the complexity of great Chianti, which like Vino Nobile is a blend based on Sangiovese, these wines offer the best of what makes Tuscan wines special.

Remarkably, the Baroncini family have been producing wine in San Gimignano since 1489 with the skills having been passed down from father to son over the centuries and it remains a family run business today, over 500 years on! All this means that they know a thing or two about great Tuscan wines and how to get the best out of the Sangiovese grape. This has a good fruit structure of red and black cherry fruit lifted with fresh acidity and savoury and leathery notes with well integrated oak. A well made and very traditional style of wine that comes from possibly the finest vintage of the decade. Drink by the end of 2013 with red meat, game and strong cheese. 13.5% vol.

Beringer Founders' Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2005, California

RRP £12.99
1x75cl £6.49 - Half Price
6x75cl £38.50
Beringer have a great history of winemaking with numerous awards since their foundation in 1876. This is a stunning wine to drink now. It bursts with bright cassis, black fruit and sweet brown spice aromas with just a touch of vanilla that leads into a juicy mouthfeel. A balanced dose of structured tannins and its long finish make this unmistakably a California Cabernet...... impressive winemaking and absolutely delicious! This will cope well with grilled meats but is probably most enjoyable simply on its own. Experience tells us that these Founders' Estate wines age extremely well and this will still dazzle in another two to three years. 13.5% vol.

A great treat for Chablis lovers. This is from the legendary 2008 vintage - "One of the greatest vintages of the past 25 years" (Maison Joseph Drouhin). Wonderful ripe citrus fruit and summer flower aromas. Crisp, fresh and extremely elegant with steely flint and crunchy green apple flavours. Clean and razor sharp and with that distinctive minerality typical of great Chablis. Satisfyingly long, this will make an outstanding apéritif or would be a delicious seafood partner. 12.5% vol.

Beringer Founders' Estate Chardonnay 2006, California

RRP £12.99
1x75cl £6.49 - Half Price
6x75cl £38.50
A lot of clever winemaking goes into this; Chardonnay grapes from vineyards on the North Coast contribute apple and pear aromas and flavours, Monterey fruit yields vibrant stone fruit and pineapple characteristics, while lots from vineyards in Santa Barbara add their customary tropical fruit nuances. After gently crushing the various batches of grapes, 80% of the wine is barrel-fermented and then aged in French and American oak barrels for nine months to layer subtle spice aromas and add complexity and richness. The remainder is fermented in stainless steel to preserve the bright acidity and highlight green apple and tropical fruit. All these intense fruit characters simply jump out at you and deliver a huge mouthful of bright but complex flavours with a lingering and rich finish. It pairs perfectly with so many dishes - everything from a light grilled chicken to a rich risotto. 13.5% vol.

Matua Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand

RRP £9.49
1x75cl £5.99 - Save £3.50
6x75cl £35.50
Founded in 1973, the pioneering Matua Valley was the first New Zealand winery to produce Sauvignon Blanc and over time, they've got pretty good at it. This has lively floral and blossom characters and an underlying green apple aroma on the nose. The palate is round and full with zesty citrus fruit characters that leave the palate clean and fresh. Lovely on its own or you could try it with pan fried snapper. 13% vol.
